This was created using Adobe Sketch and I will be porting it over to either Fresco or Procreate to finish for print. There are some new brushes that I may want to try out in Procreate that will add a little more dimension to the colors. I will make it available as is until I revise it then I’ll make a new edition with it and remove the older one
View PostI set out to make this work representational, but with a Modigliani type feel to it, and with her in mind, but I didn’t think she’d appreciate it, and I was right. She didn’t. But I think it captures her general impression when you get away from that -there is a camera pointing at me so I’m going to smile- look she has in every photo I saw when looking for a reference.
View PostThis is a drawing using a new set of brushed I purchased for Procreate. It is called Graphite Pro and it has a set of pencils that range from 9H to 9B. It also features a paper texture that looks like a cold press surface in A4. It is an excellent combination to work on. There is also a very nice smudge preset that works very nicely with the combination.
View PostI’m still in the process of loosening up my work. I hope to one day achieve the desired expression with minimal strokes and indications of shading and color. I’m finding it difficult not to work back into something to try to give it more of what the reference seems to dictate. So what I’ve been trying to do is find the gesture and work from there.
View PostFigure with fabric is a study in digital charcoal, again using Procreate. This is from a photo reference found on NMA. My original intention was to draw this and future work with more of a gesture feel, very loose and pushing my hint of color a little further. What I ended up with was this and I know why.
View PostThis particular work is actually an exercise in illustrating hair in a different way than I have tried before. It’s more of a pen and ink technique if I were to execute it on an illustration board. The app format for vector line work allows you to work with bezier curves and brush shapes to very smooth strokes.
View PostA digital painting of a friends self portrait. This created using Art Rage on the iPad 2 with a Wacom Stylus. This work was exhibited with a 1 in 100 best group at a gallery in Palo Alto, Ca, a few years ago
View PostThis is an older digital drawing created on the iPad 2 using a Wacom stylus. I believe the software was Adobe Sketch at the time. It probably needs to be revisited and rounded out a bit, a new background maybe a little color. There are a few from this time that I think I want to revisit and attempt to make whole.
View PostI think I will be going back into the hair on this one. Photo reference from Pinterest. Charcoal brush pack in Procreate. This is from a reference I saw in Pinterest. FYI none of the drawing created from someone else’s reference will be made available for sale unless the reference was used for an “approximation” in part of a more complex composition.
View PostCharcoal study using Alphacolor black charcoal, Conte Crayon and Nitram Charcoal powder on Strathmore 500 Smooth Vellum. This conventional drawing was done using photo reference found in Pinterest. The work is an exercise and not for sale.
